René
Marie will be on JazzSet
with Dee Dee Bridgewater during
the week of September 29th. This
program is on 100 radio stations
worldwide and will act as a "warm-up"
for her co-hosting the National
NPR broadcast on 165 stations on
New Years Eve. The program will
be a broadcast of a performance
earlier this year at Kennedy Center.
René
Marie is taking the jazz
world by storm. Critical acclaim
is being heaped on her by some heavy
hitters in the industry with Larry
Applebaum, Jazz Times raving
"She owns the stage in a way
we haven't seen since Betty Carter."
Producer Brian Bacchus notes "Standing
ovations in a club are rare....closing
in on Betty Carter territory....songwriting
reminiscent of Nina Simone...you
should FLY to see her..."
Charles
Lloyd Trio
featuring Zakir Hussain and Eric
Harland.
Lloyd and Hussain first
performed together in a sold out
November 2001 concert at Grace Cathedral
in San Francisco. This concert made
it clear that music is about building
bridges between cultures, not destroying
them.
Although Lloyd was born in Memphis,
Tennessee and Hussain is from Bombay,
India — each has been a world
citizen for decades. They each have
the capacity to produce formidable
expressive range on their respective
instruments, and each has worked
a rather intergalactic range of
musicians, as well.
Joined
by Eric Harland, (who replaced Billy
Higgins in Lloyd’s quartet)
A unique, intensely expressive and
creative trio was formed. In November
2004, this remarkable trio gave
a series of concerts in Europe that
were sold out and left the audience
asking for more. Their concerts
bring a unique opportunity to hear
them draw from their voluminous
experience in the jazz and Indian
classical traditions, as well as
other world musics.
